Movie: Emma’s Wish

Emma’s Wish

Lonely Emma (Joanna Kerns) makes one wish on her 75th birthday: that she could go back in time and mend her broken relationship with her daughter (Harley Jane Kozak). To Emma’s surprise, she wakes the next day as a 40-year-old and gets her unsuspecting daughter to hire her as a nanny. Things don’t go as easily as Emma had planned; however, when she discovers that her daughter’s home life is less than perfect.

I loved this movie, as it was a tear jerker for me.  Have you seen it?  I have the feeling that when I am older I will want to wish as Emma did!

If you give this little film half a chance it’s gonna get you . However, you must be able to suspend any sense of logic .That’s not a criticism. It’s just like any fantasy . You must accept that lovely Joanna Kerns undergoes a certain sudden transformation that, as far as I know, is scientifically impossible. If you go with it then this film is a “must” for those who want something “lightweight” but “meaningful” at the same time. I can imagine those of us who’ve reached a certain age will be the ones most touched by the plot device. All the actors do a fine job, but as I’ve already alluded, the whole thing is ably carried on the slender shoulders of Ms. Kerns. A warning: Have the Kleenex nearby, just in case.

Emma’s wish is a heartwarming story about the consequences of choices made without forgiveness. The paradox of passing those same traits on to her daughter and a bit of magical inspiration, gives Emma an opportunity to change the past, by forgiving.

This was a pleasant evening and I wish more movies were made without trash talk and noisy backgrounds; loud party music, traffic on a street corner too loud to hear the dialog, and other sound effects meant to lend authenticity. Put it in if you have to, but tone it down. Many movies cover up important dialog and viewer is left to puzzle it all out. This was a good, somewhat predictable, family movie. It would hit home with older folks most likely. We all look back and see things that make us wonder what we could have done better in our families. Good performances overall even though the concept is magical, we do like to believe sometimes and set aside our analytical selves and just enjoy the story. We did exactly that.

I enjoyed this movie. It’s a heartwarming story about a woman who gets a second chance to have a wonderful relationship with her daughter and a daughter with her mom. It’s about forgiveness and understanding. It’s a great movie to watch with your family.

Floating Lanterns

If you have ever seen the Disney movie Tangled then you’ll remember the floating lantern festival from the movie. The lantern festival is a real thing. There are a few all over the world with the original and largest being in Thailand. Here are a few tips for using them: It takes a few people to set off each one. One person needs to hold it while the other lights. You hold them while they warm up and they become warm enough to float.

There are lots of sources online for these, including right here. Would you ever use floating lanterns at your event?
